  • Update all of your Apple devices to the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS. On your PC, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
  • Connect all of your devices to the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
  • Make sure that all of your devices are signed in with the same Apple ID and authorized to play purchases using that Apple ID.

I have a MacPro with 3 gig of RAM, 10.5.2 and iTunes 7.6.1 (9). I also have a large music library. Since installing these updates somewhere iTunes has started going wacky. Getting very slow, lots of beachballs, graphics sluggish, slow responiveness. I reinstalled Leopard and it seems a little better but the problems persist. Set up Home Sharing

Before you can use Home Sharing, you need to set it up on your Mac or PC.

How to set up Home Sharing on your Mac

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences.
  2. Click Sharing.
  3. Click Media Sharing.
  4. Select Home Sharing and sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.
  5. Click Turn On Home Sharing.

How to set up Home Sharing on your PC

  1. Open iTunes for Windows.
  2. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.
  3. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose File > Home Sharing > Turn on Home Sharing.

You can use Home Sharing with up to five computers that are connected to your home Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.

Use Home Sharing

On your Mac or PC, you can use Home Sharing to see shared libraries from other computers that are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and signed in with the same Apple ID.

To see a shared library from a computer on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV, you need to be signed in with the same Apple ID as the computer and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

On your Mac

You can use Home Sharing to access your media library across computers that are on the same Wi-Fi network. And you can stream music, movies, and TV shows from one authorized computer to another. Just make sure that your computers are powered on, awake, and have the Music app or iTunes for Windows open.

To access your media library:

  1. Open the Music app.
  2. If you're not signed in, sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.
  3. In the sidebar, click Library.
  4. Click the media library.

To go back to your music library, click Eject in the sidebar.

On your PC

You can use Home Sharing to stream music, movies, and TV shows from one authorized computer to another. Just make sure that your computers are powered on, awake, and have the Music app or iTunes for Windows open.

To see all of your shared libraries, click Music in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

To use Home Sharing to access your computer's media library on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, sign in to Home Sharing on your device:

  2. Tap Home Sharing. Don't see it? Tap Edit, select Home Sharing, then tap Done.
  3. Choose a shared library.

See shared videos

  1. Open the TV app.
  2. Tap Library.
  3. Choose a shared library.

On your Apple TV

To use Home Sharing to access your computer's media library on your Apple TV, sign in to Home Sharing on your Apple TV:

  1. Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Home Sharing.
  2. Select Turn on Home Sharing.
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID. Use the same Apple ID for every computer or device on your Home Sharing network.

After you sign in, follow these steps to access your computer's media library on your Apple TV:

  1. Connect your Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  2. On your computer, open the Music app, Apple TV app, or iTunes for Windows.
  3. On your Apple TV, go to the Home screen, select Computers, and choose a shared library.

You can also view photos from your computer on your Apple TV.

  • On your Mac: Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences. Click Sharing. Click Media Sharing, then select Share Photos with Apple TV.
  • On your PC: Open iTunes for Windows. In the menu bar, go to File > Home Sharing, then select Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV.

Before you begin

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS.
  • Sign in with the Apple ID that you used to purchase or download the item originally.

Redownload apps

Games that you play with an Apple Arcade subscription don't appear in your purchases. To redownload a game from Apple Arcade, search for the game and download it again.

  1. Open the App Store app, then tap Today at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the sign-in button or your photo at the top of the screen. Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.
  3. Tap Purchased.
    If you use Family Sharing, tap My Purchases or choose a family member’s name to see content that they purchased.
  4. Tap 'Not on this [device]'.
  5. Find the app that you want to download, then tap the download button . Can't see the app that you purchased?

You can't redownload apps on an Apple TV (3rd generation or earlier).

Redownload music

If you have an Apple Music subscription, items that you download to listen to offline won't appear in your iTunes Store purchase history. You can turn on Sync Library to access your music library and music that you've downloaded from Apple Music on all of your devices.

How to redownload music on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  1. Open the iTunes Store app. Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.
  2. On your iPhone or iPod touch, tap More in the menu at the bottom of the screen, then tap Purchased. On an iPad, just tap Purchased.
  3. Tap Music at the top of the screen.
    If you use Family Sharing and you want to see content that a family member purchased, tap the family member’s name.
  4. Find the music that you want to redownload, then tap it.
  5. Tap the download button for the song or album. You can find the music in the Music app. Can't see the item that you purchased?

You can sync music from your iPhone to your Apple Watch.

On Apple TV, Android devices and more, turn on Sync Library to listen to any song from Apple Music or your music library.

Redownload movies and TV shows

You won't see Apple TV channels in your purchases. To redownload episodes or movies from an Apple TV channel, search for them in the Apple TV app and download them again.

When you rent a movie, you can only download it to one device at a time.

How to redownload movies and TV shows on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  1. Open the iTunes Store app. Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.
  2. On an iPhone or iPod touch, tap More in the menu at the bottom of the screen, then tap Purchased. On an iPad, just tap Purchased.
  3. At the top of the screen, tap Movies or tap TV Shows.
    If you use Family Sharing and you want to see content that a family member purchased, tap the family member’s name.
  4. Find the movie or TV show that you want to redownload, then tap it.
  5. Tap the download button for the title. When the download is completed, you can find the movie or TV show in the Apple TV app. Can't see the item that you purchased?

Redownload books or audiobooks

If you see a message that says an audiobook can no longer be purchased on Apple Books, there are two things you can try:

  • If you've previously purchased the item, follow the steps below to redownload it without paying a second time.
  • If you've never bought the item, search for an updated version of the same audiobook in the Book Store.

How to redownload books and audiobooks on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  1. Open the Apple Books app, then tap Reading Now at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the sign-in button or your photo in the top-right corner of the screen. Sign in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase the item.
  3. Under My Purchases, tap either Books or Audiobooks.
    If you use Family Sharing, you can tap a family member's name to see their purchases.
  4. Tap 'Not on this [device]', then tap All Books or All Audiobooks.

Get audiobooks on other devices

You can add audiobooks from your iPhone to your Apple Watch.

On a PC, use iTunes for Windows to redownload audiobooks. Follow the same steps that you use to redownload music, but choose Audiobooks in the top corner of the Purchases pane.

If you can't see the item that you want to redownload

  • Check your purchase history to make sure that you purchased the item with the Apple ID that you signed in with. If not, sign in with a different Apple ID. If you aren’t sure what your Apple ID is, we can help.
